YWCA Greater Harrisburg Announces Harrisburg Homeless Veteran’s Stand Down on 2/21-2/23/20 at the Harrisburg Armory, 1400 Calder Street, Harrisburg, PA.
“Friends of the Homeless Veteran’s Stand Down,
“This Year’s event will take place the weekend of February 21st through the 23rd at the Harrisburg Armory, 1400 Calder Street, Harrisburg, PA. Veterans will check-in beginning Friday afternoon and continue through Saturday, with the Stand Down concluding Sunday morning. Homeless and at risk Veterans and their families throughout South Central Pennsylvania are welcome to the event to access the many services that provide support and hope for a better future. Free transportation is provided for Veterans to attend the event (please see attached schedules for locations, dates and times).
“Last Year’s Stand Down served over 90 homeless and at risk Veterans and need for services continues. Through the ongoing dedication and commitment of volunteers and service organizations this Year’s event will be able to provide basic needs, health care, housing, employment, legal and other services and benefits. These include lifesaving interventions, rapid housing of homeless Veterans, and opportunities for Veterans to sustain or achieve self-sufficiency in an accepting, safe and supportive environment.
“If you or someone you know is interested in being part of the 2020 Stand Down please respond with current contact information and area of interest. We currently need ambassadors to provide friendship and support to individual Veterans during the event, and volunteers to include assistance with outreach, transportation, and other activities. Donations of men’s and women’s underwear, long sleeve shirts, jeans and khaki pants, t-shirts, sweatshirts, winter coats and other cold weather clothing items are needed and appreciated!
